Substitutions and Variations
You can use any type of chocolate chips or even chocolate chunks or chopped chocolate.
For this recipe I prefer compound chocolate and not couverture because high baking temperature might burn the chocolate.
You can add chopped nuts and up to 1/4 cup of oats.
You can replace half flour with whole wheat flour.
Serving Suggestions
Chocolate chip cookies are great with a cup of warm or cold milk. It also tastes great with coffee or tea.
Storage and make ahead
These are great cookies to make ahead both prior to baking or after fully baked.
You can refrigerate the prepared batter in fridge for up to a day and then bake them scooping it out covered well.
You can scoop the batter on a baking sheet, freeze and then place the frozen portions in zip lock bag, to bake, place them directly on baking sheet (spacing them well) and bake in preheated oven as mentioned in the recipe.
These are ideal treat and snacks for kids and their lunch boxes, free from preservatives, additives and artificial flavors.

Chocolate Chip Cookies without Brown Sugar
Chocolate Chip Cookies are absolute favorite at my home and when often when I am short on brown sugar, or its hardened and will take a while to soften (see tips below) I would make these chocolate chip cookies without brown sugar.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Butter, unsalted, soft
- 3/4 cup Sugar, granulated
- 1 Egg
- 1 1/2 cups Flour, all purpose (Maida)
- 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla
- 1/2 cup Chocolate chips
Instructions
- Cream butter and sugar using a whisk or electric hand beater.
- Add egg. Beat.
- Add vanilla.
- Sift in flour, salt, baking powder.
- Beat on a low speed of using spatula until mixed well.
- Fold in chocolate chips*.
- Scoop 12 balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment/baking paper.
- Bake in a pre-heated oven at 350F for 15-18 minutes until golden.
- Let them rest for 10 minutes before removing from the tray and cool completely.
Notes
*If using nuts or/and oats (up to 1/4 cup), you can add at this step.
